What is ISNetworld, and does your company need it?

If a client has ever asked for your "ISNetworld grade" or your "RAVS review," you have run into contractor prequalification. Here is what ISNetworld is, how it compares to the other platforms, and a simple test for whether you actually need an account.

What ISNetworld is

ISNetworld is a third-party platform that large owners and general contractors use to prequalify the contractors they hire. You upload your safety program, statistics, insurance certificates, and other documents; ISNetworld reviews them against the hiring client's requirements; and you receive a grade the client can see. It is a centralized way for clients to confirm you are a safe, qualified contractor before they let you on site.

ISNetworld, Avetta, ComplyWorks — what's the difference?

They are competing platforms that do the same basic job: contractor prequalification. Which one you need is decided by your clients, not by you. If your client uses Avetta, you need Avetta. If they use ISNetworld, you need ISNetworld. Many contractors end up on more than one because different clients use different systems.

Do you actually need it?

Here is the simple test: you need it when a client requires it.There is little value in joining on your own without a hiring client connected to your account. The moment an owner or general contractor says "get set up in ISNetworld," it becomes a requirement to win and keep that work.

What's involved

• An account and annual subscription (the cost scales with your size and the number of clients connected).
• A management system questionnaire and a RAVS review, where your written safety program is graded against the standard.
• Posting your injury and incident statistics and WSIB information.
• Keeping insurance certificates and documents current.
• Ongoing updates — it is not set-and-forget. Grades slip when documents lapse.
